Cleveland Hopkins International Airport5300 Riverside Dr, Cleveland, OHWeb: Visit this site » Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, located approximately 10 miles southwest of Cleveland, is proud to claim many airport firsts. It's the first municipally-owned airport in the U.S., opened in 1925, the first with an airfield lighting system and air traffic control tower, both added in 1930, and the first airport to be connected to a mass transit rail system, in 1968. Until a new runway was completed in 2003, the airport also held a more dubious honor as the nation's largest single runway airport. The airport is a hub for Continental Airlines, which accounts for over 60 percent of all passengers including a daily direct flight to London's Gatwick Airport. Ten other commercial airlines also service the airport offering nonstop flights across the country.
