Birmingham International Airport is Alabama''s largest airport serving the Greater Birmingham area and surrounding Southeastern cities. It is conveniently located four and a half miles from downtown Birmingham, the state capital. The airport is home to eight major airlines offering nonstop flights to 25 destinations primarily in the eastern half of the U.S. The renovated, crescent-shaped terminal building has two concourses with 19 gates and provides quick access to an adjacent parking garage, ticket counters and boarding gates. The airport currently does not offer any non-stop international flights, but a $43 million runway extension project will allow the airport to accommodate nonstop overseas flights in the future.

  • Location clean and tidy.
  • Takes ages to get through security.

“Visited the airport on Thursday 15 march 2007 and had to wait for one hour to get through security. This was due to lack of staffing and positions arising from refurbishment, not due to security alerts etc. An absolute disgrace! Otherwise airport is great, centrally located, easy access to National rail network, selection of food etc. Is nice and airport is modern.”

  • Clean, fast, good parking.
  • Parking deck signage.

“Birmingham is a somewhat little airport. Since you'll probably be either originating or terminating a flight here, you won't be needing a bookstore, a Sharper image, which is good, because they don't have them. But the snack bar is decent and serves yogurt, coffee drinks, and some basic fast food items. I've never experienced a long wait in ticketing or security. Parking is plentiful, only hitch is the signage in long-term parking is a little lacking as to where you should park for what terminal. However, it doesn't really matter much as all the terminals are fairly close together and if you parked in the worst parking lot on the deck you'd still have a shorter walk than many airports. Just kind of keep your eyes open as you drive into the deck and you'll figure out the best places to park.”
