Austin Bergstrom International Airport3600 Presidential Blvd, Austin, TXWeb: Visit this site » Austin-Bergstrom International Airport opened for passengers in 1999 on the site of a refurbished air force base after Austin had outgrown its previous airport, Robert Mueller Airport. The airport is now served by eight major airlines and provides nonstop service to 31 destinations. Like many recently built airport facilities, the main terminal, named after U.S. Senator Barbara Jordan, is spacious, bright and features regional materials like Texas Pearl granite. Sticking with the Texan theme, be on the lookout for whimsical big hair and cowboy hat etchings on the baggage level restroom mirrors. The long and crescent shaped terminal is only 280 feet wide allowing passengers to easily move from ticketing to gates and baggage claim. "Music in the Air," live music performances showcasing Austin's diverse music scene, greet visitors and welcomes home Austinites in the central courtyard area on the secured side of the terminal.
