Albany International Airport, in New York's capital city, serves Northeastern New York and Western New England with flights on 10 major carriers including Delta, Northwest, Southwest and United. In the early 1900s, Albany was the home of the first municipal airplane landing site in the United States. The airport has long since moved from its original location on a former polo field and now boasts a 230,000 square foot state-of-the-art terminal that's the product of a multi-million dollar expansion project. Opened with the new terminal, the airport's art gallery on the third floor before security has become a premier exhibition venue for artists in the Capital Region.
