Nantucket Memorial Airport is a small airport built in the Cape Cod style with a pitched roof and weathered clapboard siding. The airport serves Nantucket Island located 25 miles off the coast of Cape Cod, Mass. Six airlines service the airport: Cape Air, Colgan Air, Continental Express, Island Airlines, Nantucket Airlines and US Airways Express. All airlines operate regional jet or smaller planes into the airport and nonstop flights primarily connect to cities in the northeast. The style of the airport's current terminal complements the island's historic homes and buildings, but plans to build a new terminal are underway. The new terminal, schedule to open in 2007, will provide more square footage, improved safety and security systems and a more seating at departure gates. We just hope the new terminal continues to mirror the Nantucket style blending the past with the future.
