If you've seen the Disney aminated feature, you might think you know all there is to know about The Lion King, but five minutes into the live performance, you'll realize you were wrong. The opening "Circle of Life" - powerful, beautiful and amazing - will give you goosebumps, and that won't be the only time. Elton John and Tim Rice's original score is beautifully enhanced by several songs by South African songwriter Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and Hans Zimmer, bringing much more African rhythm and dancing to the performance. Probably the most difficult project in bringing a cartoon to the stage (without alienating the adult audience) is very sucessfully executed by award winning Julie Taymor and her crew through a variety of masks, puppets and shadows that continuously amuse and amaze the audience, especially the younger members. What results from the marriage of the original story, the musical collaboration and innovative costume and set design is a sensory feast. Children will be absolutely stunned by The Lion King, but it is not for kids only; there is something for everyone at this show.

The Lion King is playing in select cities all over the U.S., including the following: San Francisco, CA: Aug - Nov 21; Boston, MA: Nov - Feb 20; and Seattle, WA: Nov 30 - Jan 16. Also touring abroad - visit website for more details.

“A must see...This was a family event like no other a. My 10 year old nephew was captured from the opening moments as were my parents and everyone else in the theater. As the elephants made their way down the isle to the stage, I sat, mouth dropped open with amazement, at what it must have taken to produce this play. Bravo!!! I have seen my share of plays and have to admit this was one of the best I have seen.”
