Namdaemun (South Gate)Namchang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, South KoreaTel: +82 (0)2 757 0086 (KNTO) This distinctive structure was once the main gate of Seoul during the Chosun Period (1392-1910). There used to be a wall surrounding the city, with large gates placed at the four compass points. The road going through this south gate led straight to the royal palace of Kyongbukkung. Completed in 1398 and extensively renovated in 1447, today this structure stands in the middle of an intersection as a reminder of days past.
