Maria Island, just off the east-coast town of Triabunna, is steeped in history with many historic buildings and relics. The ruins of the convict settlement are a favourite among visitors who can experience some of the loneliness and isolation of the convicts interned here. The island can only be reached by a short ferry ride and once you step onto the shore, the peaceful ambience will draw you in. There are no motor vehicles and no shops, so walk or cycle your way around and enjoy the natural and historic treasures of this wonderful island.
