Pyynikin HarjuPyynikin harju, Tampere, FinlandPyynikki ridge was formed about 10,000 years ago when the Ice Age ended and the continental glacier that had covered the whole of Scandinavia started slowly to retreat northward. There are several marked and lit walking paths of various lengths in Pyynikki. Because the ridge is very steep in places, it takes a lot of effort to climb up the stairs to the top. This is why many sports clubs have regular training sessions here. Pyynikki is also very popular among ordinary sports enthusiasts. In the summer people walk and jog here, and in the winter they go cross-country skiing. But if you don't feel like straining yourself, it is also possible to drive all the way to up the Pyynikki Observation Tower. The Pyynikki ridge is a nature reserve, and there are several rare species of plants growing there. The forest is over 200 years old. So when you go to Pyynikki, please stay on the marked paths. The whole family can enjoy a day outdoors here. After a nice walk you can go to the observation tower to look at the scenery even further away. There is a cafe downstairs in which you can try the famous doughnuts (the best in Tampere, they say).
