The village of Chalky Mount sits in the hills overlooking the east coast. More important, it sits on tons of naturally occurring clay. The villagers have developed a cottage industry making and selling pottery sculptures and kitchenware. The best place to stop and shop is the Chalky Mount Pottery cooperative, which features the work of several potters. You can poke your head in the back and watch them kilning their pieces, which you can then buy. Good deals can be found here.
