The Novodevichii Convent was founded in 1524 as a monument to Vasilii III and the conquest of Smolensk. During its 400-year history, it has acquired a very rich collection of more than 14,000 items. Among them are 2,000 icons, 3,000 tempera and oil paintings and more than 500 old-printed theological books and manuscripts. Some of the most famous icons in its posession include Great Martyr St. George the Victorious and St. John the Baptist which were created in the 15th century. Admission: 73RUR for adults; 43RUR concession. Excursions in English available for 400RUR plus 90RUR per person.
