Danzantes de San Jeronimo de Santo Domingo (Los)Carretera Trasandina, kilómetro 83, Merida, MexicoTel: +58 80063743 The patron saint of the town of Santo Domingo is not the settlement's holy namesake, but rather San Jeronimo. In the town's colourful and famous celebration held every September 30th by the Dancers of San Jeronimo. At 5a, they play their bugles calling people to mass, forming two rows inside the church and then the religious ceremony begins. After mass, they parade the saint's statue down a two-kilometre stretch in a procession that, with multiple stops along the way, concludes in the chapel of the Llano de San Jeronimo. Here the icon is placed on the altar and a famous dance is performed in which a Captain Major, a second Captain and three Drummers, the Standard-bearers take part.
