Barra Fort
Avenida da Republica, Macau City, MacauAlthough not completed until 1627, this strategically important fortification was instrumental in defending Macau's inner harbour against the 1622 attack by the Dutch. Used only once, the fort's cannons were exchanged for rice to feed World War II refugees. Over the centuries the fort slowly fell into disrepair, and was gradually being demolished to make way for new roads. Luckily, leftover ruins were incorporated into the Pousada de Sao Tiago, a deluxe hotel that welcomes visitors to look round the remnants of the once powerful Barra Fort.

- the buildings in Portuguese style attract me most
“The Fort was pretty much the same as the original one in Lisboa, tourists may enjoy Portuguese lifestyle without travel to Portugal simply, stay in Macau the where easts meets west. Also, congratulations to Macau that the World heritage announced that more than ten places in Macau became miracle. Personally, I think the government should protect Portuguese interest and maintain Macau as an European style city. ”
