Plaza del PortilloVia Agustina de Aragon, Zaragoza, SpainBy the bullring we can see Plaza Portillo, so called because here lay one of the eight gates the city until the 19th century. This gate was damaged during the War of Independence, later restored and finally destroyed in 1869. The middle of the square has a garden with trees and bushes, and a monument to the heroine Agustina de Aragon, erected in 1908 by Benlliure for the centenary memorial of the sieges of Zaragoza (there were two: in 1808 and 1809). Opposite stands the baroque Portillo Church. Goya immortalized Agustina de Aragon in a portrait next to the old Plaza Portillo.
