Canal Imperial de Aragon
Rio Ebro y El Burgo, Zaragoza, SpainCrossing Zaragoza in the south, the Imperial Canal is a green swathe that cuts though the city. Fortunately it is now being looked after, so as not to fall into neglect. It was dug in the 18th century for irrigation and built thanks to the city patrons Count Aranda and Ramon Pignatelli. It has a total length of 125km, starting in the Ebro and flowing back into the Ebro near El Burgo. It currently supplies Zaragoza with drinking water and irrigates 27,000 hectares. A small harbour has recently been built. Will we again see boats on it as we did before?
