The birthday of the Goddess of Mercy, or Kuan Yin, is celebrated on the 19th day of the second, sixth and ninth month of the Lunar calendar. Devotees view these occasions as an important event go vegetarian and turn up in droves at Kuan Yin temples throughout the island to make offerings and prayers for good fortune. The temple at Jalan Kapitan Kling is by far the most popular, and traditional puppet theatre and Chinese operas are performed here. Date: (Movable) March, July and November-not a public holiday.
