Florianska Gate

Florianska Gate

Ulica Florianska, Krakow, Poland

Krakow used to have eight city gates. These fortified entrances were the only legal (and practical) way to enter the walled city. Only one of them remains - the beautiful Florianska Gate. The Barbakan lies just in front of it and it is closed in on both sides by remaining sections of the old walls. It is here that hundreds of paintings are hung every day, all available for purchase. The Florianska Gate is now a powerful symbol of Krakow and is one of the most photographed sights. It is the natural way to enter the Old Town for visitors arriving by train, making their introduction to the city even more impressive.
