The Volcano, in the island's south, came to life in 1995 and is still active, but does not pose a danger to the safe northern area. The volcano and surrrounding devastated areas are strictly out of bounds, but the devastation can be viewed at a safe distance from Garibaldi Hilland Jackboy Hill. The volcano itself is often hidden by cloud but you might be lucky to get a glimpse. An expert team of scientists and technicians monitors the volcano daily and passes on information to the government and the public. For more information visit the Volcano Observatory. Occasionally you may experience an ash fall.
