Jesuitenkirche/UniversitatskircheKarl-Rahner-Platz, Innsbruck, AustriaTel: +43 512 5346 0 • Web: Visit this site » The church of the Jesuite order in the centre of historic Innsbruck was constructed in 1619, after the theological college which dates back to 1561, but the structure collapsed in 1626 and was again rebuilt according to the ideas of Chritoph Gumpp. The gable was only finished in 1900/01. The twin-tower facade and the dome resemble the cathedral of Salzburg. The inside of the church is dark. Especially worth seeing are the iron gate dating back to 1667 and a crucifix from the 18th century. The remains of many regional princes, among them the donors of the church, Leopold V and Claudia di Medici are burried in the crypt. The college has been incorporated into the University in 1776 and belongs to the faculty of theology.
