Statue of MickiewiczOld Town Square, (on the east side), Krakow, PolandPeople like to sit around this popular statue. It's also a popular meeting place. Adam Mickiewicz was a romantic author and patriot. His most famous work is Pan Tadeusz, which was recently made into a movie. He died of typhus in Istanbul in 1855. After his death, his ashes were brought back and kept in Wawel Castle. The original statue was destroyed by the Nazis who considered Mickiewicz a subversive figure.
