Volcan ArenalFortuna, San Jose, Costa RicaTel: Not available • Web: Visit this site » The volcano is some distance from San Jose, but it is worth the trip to visit one of Central America's most impressive volcanoes. In the night, the view is awe-inspiring thanks to the red-hot rocks that the volcano spews into the air. You can stay in the village, Fortuna, to take advantage of the night views, or take a day trip from the capital to visit the Parque Nacional Volcan Arenal.

“I loved the little town of La Fortuna near the Arenal Volcano. There were so many things to do there. I wish we would have based ourselves out of there to take advantage of more activities. We did do the whitewater rafting on the Ro Toro -- it was like non-stop action! Then we did the canyoneering with the same company DeSafio and by far that was the best thing we did in Costa Rica! Even the lunch was amazing! We also did a volcano hike (the live, bright red lava was definitely cool) and finished the night in some local hot springs. Monteverdi was nice -- a total change of pace and we decided to go to the Caribbean at the end. Costa Rica is really a diverse, but easy country to get around. We all had a great time!” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Popular Attractions in San JoseView all attractions in San Jose
