Cathedral of the Assumption

3 Lebuh Farquhar, Penang, Malaysia
Tel: +60 4 2610088

The Cathedral was first founded in 1786 and is one of the stops along the American Express Heritage Trail 2. Originally, it was named Church of the Assumption as the Roman Catholic Eurasians from Kedah landed in Penang that year on the eve of the Feast of the Assumption. The present building, erected by Father Manisol, was opened in 1861. In 1955 the church became known as the Cathedral of the Assumption. English services are held at 11am and 6.30pm on Saturdays and Sundays only. At other times, the church is closed off to visitors.
