Camino de Santiago en SantanderAsociación de Amigos del Camino de Santiago, Ruamayor, 9-11, Santander, SpainTel: +34 942 213200 The coastal branch of the famous pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela passes through the city of Santander. Pilgrims often arrived here by sea to start their journey, so the route through the city starts from the Palacete del Embarcadero, at the docks. After crossing the Pereda Gardens, the path heads east along Avenida Calvo Sotelo, and Jesus de Monasterio, Burgos and San Fernando streets, until reaching Cuatro Caminos Roundabout. Taking Calle Alta brings you to the point where the path merges with the one taken by pilgrims travelling overland. Still heading east, you pass by the Convento de Santa Cruz (17th century), the Parlamento Regional de Cantabria (Hospital de San Rafael, 18th century) and the Iglesia de la Consolacion (18th century), heading down Ruamayor and Emilio Pino streets to finish up at the Catedral.
