Kampung SeronokBatu Maung, Penang, MalaysiaTel: +60 4 261 6663 (Penang Tourist Centre) Coined by a British engineer, D. W. Grahan, its Malay name means Enjoyment Village. In circumstances under which the name was given, after World War II, the subtle suggestion perhaps alluded to the relaxed and happy-go-lucky ways of the kampung folks. Today, the resident community has organised themselves into something resembling an enterprise for the purpose of preserving traditional village culture. The successful projects run include a printing press business, an aqua-farm, a library and protection of their paddy fields. Visitors are treated to memorabilia and traditional farming implements, including a live exhibit of the "cleanest village" award winner.
