The Palace of Culture (Palac Kultury), pl. Defilad, Warsaw, Poland

 

There are more than 40 statues of Socialist around the Palace of Culture. The area around the Dramatic Theatre (Teatr Dramatyczny) has the greatest concentration of them -around 28 statues are kept here. These massive sandstone figures represent allegories of Science, Collective Economy, Math and the like. It's interesting to walk around the Palace of Culture and look at them, if not to admire their artisitic value, then for their overly dramatic and serious titles, that crack everybody up (apart from the visiting diplomats from the former Soviet Union).
