Kampung AyerPengkalan Weld, Penang, MalaysiaTel: +60 4 261 6663 (Penang Tourist Centre) A collection of water villages found along Weld Quay, that has been in existence since the 19th century. Stilted wooden shacks, linked by planked walkways, are home to generations of stevedores and boatmen eking out a hardscrabble existence in the margins of the port. Also called clan jetties, in the clannish tradition of the island's Chinese, one of the largest and liveliest is the Chew Jetty at the end of Gat Lebuh Armenian. The Malayan Railway Building clock tower, aged shipping offices and godowns, are the other rare perspective lodged deep in the memory banks of old sailors and boatmen.
