Sometime while you are in Fukuoka, try to find occasion to drive down the beautiful, jagged southern coast. If it is summer, then try to find some time to visit this beach. There is very little development around, making it quite pleasant and serene. As it is on the Itoshima penninsula, facing the ocean, surfers can catch some pretty decent waves in autumn. There is a rental house where you can rent various flotation devices between 300 and 1000 yen, toilets, showers (200 yen), parking, and four beach "cottages" available for day rental.
