A fascinating contemporary museum located near Sanjo Karasuma in a fine brick Meiji period building. There is a modern reconstruction of Edo-era Kyoto, a life-size street scene complete with sound effects and shops, which actually sell things. There are also scaled-down models of the city in ages past, audio-visual exhibitions and a section dedicated to Kyoto's film industry. Similar in scope to the popular Museum of London.
