Wat Jet YodSoi Wat Jet Yod, Superhighway, Chiang Mai, ThailandSet on large, peaceful and green grounds northwest of the walled city, this temple was built by King Tilokarat in 1453 to host the Eighth World Buddhist Council. It is different from most others in Chiang Mai since it is of an unusual Indian design inspired by the temple in Buddhagaya, the site of the Buddha's enlightenment in northern India. Beneath the seven chedis (spires) lie a cave containing a Buddha image. Around the base of the chedi are 70 smiling heavenly beings adorned in luxurious clothes and fine jewelry.
