Ministry of Education/Museum of Struggle and Martyrdomal. Szucha 25, Warsaw, PolandTel: +48 22 628 0461 The building's overwhelming facade hides some even more overwhelming bits of history within, as it was the headquarters of the Nazi Gestapo during World War II. Built in 1929-1930, the buildings Modernist-Art Deco facade makes an immediate impression as rather reminiscent of facist buildings elsewhere in Europe. The buildings basements were used as torture chambers where thousands of Poles perished during the war. One of them has been preserved practically untouched to this day, and the other parts of the basements hold memorials to those who died.
