Ulica Chmielna

Ulica Chmielna, Warsaw, Poland

Ulica Chmielna (literally 'Hops Street') was developed along with Ulica Nowy during the 18th century. Before World War II, the street was crowded with theaters, restaurants and cafes. Under Communism, it was renamed Ulica Henryka Rutkowskiego and was known for its numerous small shops and tailors, where one could buy goods and clothing otherwise unavailable in Warsaw. A few remnants of its function under the old regime remain but are disappearing fast. Today, the street is a pedestrian zone and one of Warsaw's premier shopping areas. Here, you will find any outfit you're looking for - be it cowboy, hip hop or high end fashion.
