PompeiPompei Scavi, Naples, ItalyPompeii, the most famous archeological site in Italy, is located just 25km away from Naples. The excavations are visited by millions of visitors every year and offer one of the most important pieces of evidence of the past in the whole world. Life in this rich and prosperous city was dramatically and brusquely interrupted in 79 A.D. when Vesuvius erupted and totally buried it. The city and its inhabitants were wiped out in moments. A visit to the excavations gives you a pretty good idea of what life must have been like here two thousand years ago. Admission: EUR6

“On an average warm day, wear a hat - it gets hot quite quickly and there are no buildings to hide inside or trees to sit under! Have a minimum of 4 hours available, use the audio-guide - it gives good background information and guides you to the various places. Beware that sometimes the numbers in the booklet they hand out and the audio-guide does not correspond! If you have te time spend 3-4 hours before lunch there, enjoy a nice lunch in the restaurant (charge your batteries) and spend another 2 - 3 hours to see it all (and wear very comfortable shoes) - it is a lot of walking on very uneven ground.” 12 of 13 people found this review helpful.Popular Attractions in NaplesView all attractions in Naples
