Banking and Financial CenterAleje Jerozolimskie, Warsaw, PolandThis massive building on the corner of Ulica Nowy Swiat and Aleje Jerozolimskie once housed the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Polish Communist Party and therefore essentially served as the headquarters of the Polish Peoples' Republic. Varsovians once called it the Bialy Dom (or 'White House'). In a wonderful twist of irony, today it houses the Warsaw Stock Exchange - the largest in Eastern Europe. Built in the Socialist Realist style, but basically modelled on Modernist principles, the building went up in 1948-51.
