Christchurch Pier (The)
Marine Parade, New Brighton, Christchurch, New ZealandThe suburb of New Brighton was once a bustling commercial centre for Christchurch, and boasted a classic wooden pier as one of its attractions. That pier was destroyed, but the Christchurch Pier now reaches 320 metres out across the waves and promises to reignite commercial and tourist interest in the foreshore area. The pier was officially opened in 1997, and the library building at the pier terminus recently won top architectural honours. For the thrill seeker, the Bungee Rocket is nearby.
