Monument To Adam MickiewiczKrakowskie Przedmiescie, Warsaw, PolandThe monument to this revered Polish national poet was funded by public subscriptions and unveiled in 1898 on the hundredth anniversary of his birthday. The ceremony was attended by a crowd of 12,000 despite the ban on rallies and speeches that had been imposed by the Russians. The statue is simple, depicting Mickiewicz in his usual attire with his eyes raised to the sky. The statue is 14.5 metres high and the figure itself is over four metres in height. On the pedestal there is an inscription, which reads 'To Adam Mickiewicz, from his compatriots'.
