Barrio Pesquero

Barrio Pesquero

Zona Marítima, s/n, Santander, Spain

If you yearn for the seafaring life, don't miss visiting Santander's busy fishing quarter. Originally located around Puerto Chico (Small Port), it moved to its new site when the port was given over to recreational sailing. The city's fishing fleet now moor at Darsena de Maliano (Maliano Docks) and the fishing wharf and the Poblado de Pescadores (fishermen's village) are nearby. The many bars and restaurants in the Poblado serve Cantabria's finest seafood - be sure to try it. Docks and canneries surround the entire area. The neighbourhood goes crazy for the celebration of its patron saint's day, la Virgen del Carmen, every 16 July. Join the throng for the party and the procession to the sea.
