The building which houses it dates from the end of the 17th century and was the birthplace of Pedro Velarde, hero of the Dos de Mayo uprising against French occupation in the early 1800s. In 1985 the building was declared a historic monument. The museum is crammed with fascinating and diverse artifacts, including furniture, kitchen implements, traditional tools, and an important collection of antique pictures. Displays are laid out over the nine rooms which make up this two-storey house. Temporary ethnological exhibitions are also programmed from time to time. In addition, the museum has its own specialised library and a shop. Guided tours are available free of charge. Admission is free.
