Barrio San Marcos
Calle Junín y aledañas, Quito, EcuadorSan Marcos is one of the most traditional districts and is situated right in the heart of the historic quarter of the city. Most of its buildings have been listed as part of the national heritage due to the richness of their design and infrastructure. This part of the city goes back to the 16th Century and up to the 1950's it was a middle and upper class area. Today it is a quiet suburb mostly inhabited by middle income families. This neighborhood is characterized by its narrow streets and houses with inner patios and long corridors. The surrounding area has various small businesses such as shoe stores, grocery stores and liquor stores among others, mostly to supply those who live nearby and passers-by. It is not a place visited by many people.
