The bullring is in the west of the city, near the Cuatro Caminos Roundabout and Plaza de Mexico.It was inaugurated in 1890 and has been well maintained. The prizes won by the best bull breeding ranches are displayed beneath its Mudejar-style arches.Santander's bullfighting festival, the Feria Taurina de Santander, is one of the most important in northern Spain and takes place every year at the end of July. The festival coincides with the Catholic celebration of Semana Grande, in honor of the apostle Santiago, patron saint of Spain. As well as bullfighting, the arena is used throughout the summer to stage concerts.Visits to the bullring can be arranged by phoning in advance.
