Rue du Bras de Fer1-12 Rue de Bras de Fer, Montpellier, FranceThe name of this ancient road probably derives from the insignia of a lodge that once looked out onto the narrow lane. Paved stairs and a vaulted passage characterise this attractive lane that descends from place Castellane to Rue de l'Ancien Courrier. The archway over the road is typical of 14th and 15th century architecture. Such constructions became so popular that Jacques d'Aragon prohibited the practice so as to prevent the narrow streets being plunged into darkness. Two similar archways are visible in Rue Jacques C'ur and Rue Voltaire.
