Palacio del Mexuar

Real de la Alhambra, s/n, Granada, Spain
Tel: +34 958 220 912 Web: Visit this site »

This palace was where the sultan met with his ministers to consult on affairs of state. It was here that he also received the public to listen to their petitions. The Royal Palaces were divided into three distinct parts - Mexuar, Serallo and Harem. Each of these palaces contained a number of rooms, used for different purposes, designed around a central courtyard. The Mexuar is the first of the palaces you'll come to on your tour of the Alhambra. The Mexuar room itself was the venue for councils of state and has a small prayer niche. Next you pass into the beautiful Mudejar-style Cuarto Dorado (Golden Room). This is where the sultan administered his version of justice. The room was redecorated in its present golden colour during Carlos Vs period on the throne. After this room you enter the grand Patio del Cuarto Dorado, which leads to the Serrallo.
