Square PlanchonPlace de la République, Montpellier, FranceThis tiny park opposite the railway station was designed in 1858 and recently restored after the construction of the tramway that runs alongside. It offers a pleasant spot to await your chosen means of transport. Featuring an unusual water fountain crowned by a moss covered rock, there are also several exotic tree species. At the centre of the park, a bust of the scientist Emile Planchon (1823-1888) remembers the role he played in the fight against the Phylloxera disease, notably by introducing from the United States vines resistant to the disease that devastated the French wine industry.
