Cuartel San CarlosAvenida Panteón, Esquina Dos Pilitas, Altagracia, Centro, Caracas, VenezuelaBehind the Panteon Nacional, towards the left, separated from the Panteon by a big garden, there is a colonial military structure with its unused barracks buildings. This so-called structure is the Cuartel de San Carlos, which dates back to the 17th century. The building was erected by the Spanish and used to control the traffic of people and goods in and out of Caracas from Camino de los Espanoles. This headquarters was also used as a Caracas military prison until 1995. It is currently undergoing refurbishment and in the near future it will be used as a history museum.
