Concejo Municipal de CaracasEsquina de Las Monjas, lado sur de la Plaza Bolívar, (Casco Central), Caracas, VenezuelaTel: +58 2 545 6062 The Consejo Municipal de Caracas, also called Palacio municipal, was commissioned by President Cipriano Castro in 1905 and built by the architect Alejandro Chataing, who was also responsible for other public buildings at that time. Tourists and visitors will be interested in the Plaza Bolivar entrance; this entrance goes through to the Jardin de Caracas, which takes up the central space of the Consejo, and keeps to the tropical style of the 19th century. To the left of the entrance, you'll find the dimly lit Capilla de Santa Rosalia, with the golden pulpit and altar shining out and valuable paintings on the walls. It was here that the Acta de la Independencia de Venezuela was signed in 1811. Around its main garden, you will see the Mueso de Caracas rooms, which displays models of the city, the Museo Criollo Raul Santana that shows mannequins reproducing typical scenes of daily Venezuelan life, the Museo Emilio Boggio that shows paintings and objects belonging to the artist, Sala de Arqueologia Gaspar Marcano, and finally, Sala de Documentos Historicos, which holds historic documents.
