Hari Raya HajiVarious mosques, Singapore City, SingaporeTel: +65 6256 8188 (Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura; Islamic Religious Council of Singapore) Hari Raya Haji represents a day of prayer when Muslims commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son, Prophet Ismail, based on a message conveyed by an angel from Allah. In return, a sheep was brought by the angel as a sacrifice in place of Prophet Ismail. This day is celebrated with the ritual sacrifice of sheep and goat. The meat is then given to the poor. The day also marks the close of the Hajj, or annual pilgrimage to Mecca. This movable date falls on the twelfth and last month of the Islamic calendar.
