Plaza ItaliaJirón Junín, cuadra 9, Lima, PeruThe square is so named in homage to the famous naturalist don Antonio Raymondi (1826-1890), whose statue is in this plaza. It has a pretty bronze fountain which dates back to 1611. Around it, there are the churches 'Las Descalzas', built in 1604 and 'Santa Ana', built in 1550, both much admired by tourists. Presently, the Municipality of Metropolitan Lima organises recreational activities on Saturdays and Sundays, which are also the same days when you can sample a variety of food typical of the coast, mountain, and forest regions, from stalls set up to one side of the plaza where the whole family can gather. Access to all the activities is free and they are open until 8p.
