Cerro San CristobalLima, PeruThis hill is situated close to the Rimac river and bore witness to the confrontations between the Spanish and the indigenous populations in the 16th Century. The conquistador Francisco Pizarro named it, erecting a wooden cross at its highest point. It is located at 500m above sea level and from here the visitor can contemplate an incomparable landscape: The city with its high buildings, the course of the river Rimac, as well as asphalt roads of the sea resorts and districts. An observation point with an illuminated cross, a site museum and a restaurant that has 'anticuchos' (kebabs) and 'picarones' (fritters), are its best attractions and a good motive for a visit.Entry to the museum costs: Adults: 1 sol Children: 50 centimos

“Be wary of taking the "Urbanito" bus to the top of the Cerro San Cristobal. The heavily loaded bus struggled to get up the steep street approach to the hill and caused me to worry if the brakes were in good condition. Buses in Peru are notorious for their poor maintenance and this bus did not appear to be better maintained than any other bus in Lima. 557 people died in bus accidents in the 12-month period ending July 2005. If you don't want to risk becoming part of a similar statistic I suggest you take good taxi if you want to visit the top of this hill.” Popular Attractions in Lima
