Montserrrat Volcano Observatory (MVO)

Mongo Hill, St John's, Montserrat
Tel: 664 491 5647 Web: Visit this site »

This is the hub of operations for monitoring the Soufriere Hills Volcano. The volcano cannot be viewed directly from the observatory (the Centre Hills block the view), but the expert staff of scientists and technicians record its every move through seismic instruments and field trips, and advise the Montserrat and British Governments on the safety of various areas of the island. Visit the MVO between 3p-3:30p M-Sa, with advance booking for groups of ten or more. A fascinating range of charts, maps and other materials are on display, the scientific equipment will be explained and your questions answered.
