Originally built as a castle in 1299, Akershus Festning was later developed into a city fortress. Standing on the walls and ramparts you will get truly great views of the Oslo fjord and the city. The original Akershus Castle is located inside the fortress. At the Information Centre, there is an exhibition on the history of the fortress, and guided tours depart from here each day between May and September at 10a, noon, 2pm and 4pm. Admission is free.
