Central Fire Station62 Hill Street, Singapore City, SingaporeTel: +65 6736 6622 (STB Tourist Information Centre) • Web: Visit this site » The Central Fire Station is distinguished by a lively facade of exposed red bricks and white plaster bands and ibright red garage doors opening into the street. Built between 1908 and 1909 to house the Singapore Fire Brigade, the building symbolises Singapore's first step towards establishing modern fire-fighting facilities. Contained within the building are residential quarters for professional firemen, garages for motorised engines and a Jacobean central block with a striped watch tower serving as a platform to look out for fire. Two extensions to the building in the rear were later added in 1926 and 1954.
